Valemount
For summer vacation, my Dad and I did another BC road trip. Except instead of doing a round-trip road tour, we stayed in Valemount and used it as a hub to explore the nearby area. Valemount is a fantastic base for hiking, mountain biking, and sightseeing. We stayed at the Comfort Inn for three nights and explored the town and the valley it sits on. The local marsh was beautiful during sunset and the well-maintained bike park was a hit. After spending a day around town, we headed north and explored the unique Jackman Flats on the Big Dune Trail and managed to snap some amazing macros of the local insects.
However, nothing could compared to the giant behemoth that is Mount Robson. We spent an hour and change creating time-lapses upon the deck of the information center. Sadly, we did not realize you had to get a day pass to walk the Kinney Lake Trail, and they were all reserved before we got a chance to pick one up. Instead, we decided to go whitewater rafting on the Fraser River. Everyone needs to try whitewater rafting at least once in their life. It’s exhilarating.
We also went into Wells Grey Provincial Park and hiked to Helmcken Falls. It’s the fourth highest waterfall in Canada, but it’s flow rate makes it look even more grand. The scale is incomparable. That evening, we topped the trip off with a nice dinner at the Caribou Grill before heading back to the Lower Mainland the next day.
P.S. Also check out Valemount Bakery. It’s a Swiss-style bakery and I’ll let you be the judge on how delicious their treats might be (hint: they are amazing).
